Raquel Welch Died of Cardiac Arrest and Had Alzheimer’s Disease Leading Up to Her Death

Actress Raquel Welch, known for her roles in films such as Fantastic Voyage and One Million Years B.C., passed away at the age of 82 on February 15th, 2023. TMZ obtained a copy of her death certificate, which listed her cause of death as cardiac arrest. Additionally, the certificate listed Alzheimer’s disease as a contributing factor.

Welch’s manager, Steve Sauer, confirmed her death to PEOPLE and stated that she passed away peacefully after a brief illness. He also noted that her career spanned over 50 years and included more than 30 films and 50 television appearances. In recent years, Welch was involved in a successful line of wigs.

Welch was a Golden Globe winner and starred in numerous films, including The Three Musketeers, 100 Rifles, and Chairman of the Board. Her final film role was in 2017’s How to Be a Latin Lover. She also memorably performed “I’m a Woman” with Cher on The Cher Show in 1975.

The actress was a single mother who raised two children after divorcing her first husband in 1964. She wrote a bestselling book titled Beyond the Cleavage and celebrated her 70th birthday in 2010, saying that she had a great life and that it was not over yet.

Following the news of Welch’s passing, several celebrities paid tribute to her, including Reese Witherspoon, who worked with her on Legally Blonde. Witherspoon called Welch elegant, professional, and stunning, while ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts praised her beauty and charisma.

The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, set up by the animator who worked on One Million Years B.C., also honored Welch, noting her iconic role as Loana and the famous movie poster it spawned.
