No plant can rival the royal beauty of the orchid, available in a variety of enchanting colors, capable of enhancing any space. We are well aware that it can present various problems related to its leaves, but there is an incredible natural remedy to preserve its lush beauty, which is still unknown.
Orchid: What Problems Can Affect Its Leaves?
Like any other beautiful plant, it is our responsibility to care for it to the best of our ability. For severe problems, it is always recommended to consult an expert. However, even those without a green thumb can detect the small problems that the plant may encounter.
Examining the leaves can help identify the following problems:
- The yellowing of orchid leaves, which can be due to natural aging or lack of light. It is recommended to place the plant in a bright location, but not in direct sunlight, to give its leaves a fresh appearance;
- Wilted and dry leaves indicate a lack of proper watering. During the hot season, this plant requires at least two waterings per week, adjusted to the temperature. One tip is to immerse the pot in a shallow water basin for 20 minutes to allow the plant to absorb enough water;
- Limp leaves that hang to the ground are a sign of low humidity, which can affect the roots. Few people know this, but the orchid is a tropical plant that requires an environment with about 70% humidity. Thus, the bathroom is an ideal place to put it.
DIY Balm for Orchids
To keep your orchid’s lush beauty, prepare this delicious DIY balm with entirely natural ingredients.
The necessary ingredients are as follows:
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- Juice of one organic lemon
- 20 ml of water
Start by taking a medium-sized bowl and pour in the two teaspoons of sugar, honey, and add a few drops of water. Mix until you get a homogeneous and thick mixture.
Then add the juice of one organic lemon and mix again. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let it sit for 60 minutes.
The balm is now ready to be applied to the plant. To do this, use a soft cloth, soak it in the mixture, and gently rub the surface of the leaves. The conditioner will penetrate the leaves, making them healthy and lush; be sure not to use excessive amounts.
All of these ingredients nourish and hydrate the plant, eliminating any signs of dryness. However, it is advisable not to overuse it, as the above-mentioned ingredients could attract ants.
